Boca Helping Hands Hosts Bowling for Bread to Support Weekend Meal Program for Children

Boca Helping Hands (BHH) is set to host its annual Bowling for Bread event on Sunday, August 24, from noon to 2:00 p.m. at Lucky Strike in Boca Raton. This event not only offers children from local charities a fun-filled afternoon of bowling and food but also plays a crucial role in supporting the BHH Backpacks weekend meal program. The program is designed to provide food-insecure students with easy-to-prepare meals every Friday, ensuring they have enough to eat over the weekend.

The initiative has been a lifeline for over 1,100 students across 13 local schools during the 2023-24 school year, distributing 181,362 meals and 60,454 snacks. The Bowling for Bread event is a key fundraiser for this program, with community members encouraged to sponsor a child for $100, a lane for $500, or make a donation of any size to support the cause.

Part of the Boca Chamber Festival Days, the event pairs nonprofits with for-profit members of the Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce to raise awareness and funds. Major sponsors include the Lee Pearlson Steinberg Foundation, which has been supporting the event for fourteen years, highlighting the community’s commitment to addressing child hunger.

The significance of Bowling for Bread extends beyond the immediate fun and games. It represents a collective effort to tackle food insecurity among children, a critical issue that affects their health, education, and overall well-being. By supporting the BHH Backpacks program, the event ensures that children in Boca Raton, Delray Beach, and Boynton Beach have access to nutritious meals when school is not in session.
