Foodies Care, a nonprofit organization committed to addressing hunger and homelessness in Jacksonville, is preparing to host the Legacy of Leaders Awards Ceremony on July 30. The event, taking place at the Jacksonville Golf and Country Club, will celebrate the contributions of 12 individuals who have demonstrated outstanding volunteer service. Each honoree’s affiliated nonprofit will benefit from a $1,500 stipend, contributing to a total distribution of over $115,000 in monetary donations and marketing grants.
The awards ceremony is part of Foodies Care’s broader initiative to engage the community through food-centered fundraising events. These gatherings, known as ‘friend-raisers,’ offer participants the opportunity to enjoy meaningful experiences while supporting a noble cause for a monthly contribution of $25. The Legacy of Leaders Awards feature several categories, including the Gary Chartrand Lifetime Service Award and the John Delaney Beacon of Hope Award, among others, each named after prominent figures in the community.
Following the awards ceremony, Foodies Care has scheduled a series of immersive events throughout the year, such as Bourbon & Smoke and Irish Tap & Table, designed to further the organization’s mission. Founded by Mike White in 2014, Foodies Care has since provided significant support to local nonprofits like Feeding Northeast Florida and Mission House, leveraging both financial resources and marketing expertise to amplify their impact.
Anne Ackerson, president of Foodies Care, emphasizes the dual purpose of the organization’s events: to entertain and to inspire tangible change. By honoring volunteers and supporting nonprofits, Foodies Care aims to shine a light on the individuals and organizations making a difference in the fight against hunger and homelessness in Northeast Florida.
