CASS COUNTY — As families across the country prepare to gather around their Thanksgiving tables, Cass County employees are turning their gratitude into action by helping restock shelves at local food pantries.

Earlier this month, Cass County Administrator Jennifer Rentfrow launched an employee-led food drive in response to the temporary delay in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits caused by the federal government shutdown. Collection sites were established at the Cass County Administration Building, Sheriff’s Office, Law & Courts and Medical Care Facility, allowing staff across several departments and offices to contribute.

“I am so incredibly proud of the amount of food our team collected,” Rentfrow said. “It speaks volumes about who our employees are at their core, people who genuinely care about the residents we serve.”

Although federal operations have since resumed and SNAP benefits are once again being distributed, the delay placed an increased strain on area food pantries, many of which saw a surge in need as residents waited for assistance. Cass County employees hope their donations will help replenish depleted shelves and support local families heading into the holiday season.

“The dedication of our employees extends far beyond their day-to-day responsibilities,” Rentfrow added. “Their willingness to step in and support local families is something I am truly grateful for.”

Community members who wish to join in supporting local families may donate directly to one of the following food pantries serving Cass County. Individuals in need are encouraged to visit pantries during the hours listed.
