CASSOPOLIS — Jeremy Courtney has been appointed Operations Director for Hydro’s new aluminum recycling plant in Cassopolis, Michigan.

Courtney comes from the role as Production Manager in Hydro’s recycling plant in Henderson, Kentucky and has wide operational and leadership experience from the company beginning from 2007. He replaces Interim Operations Director Sanna Frew, who was promoted to a new role in Hydro’s European recycling division.

Courtney started in his role on February 1, after supporting the Cassopolis plant on various operational projects in the second half of 2024. Courtney will report to Head of Recycling for North America, Seth Augustine.  

Key automotive experience that fits well with the Cassopolis project
With nearly two decades of experience in aluminum recycling and billet production, Courtney brings a wealth of expertise to his new role.  

Throughout his career, Courtney has played a pivotal role in developing and producing innovative, high-performance materials for the automotive industry.  In his previous position, Courtney spearheaded developing production of Hydro’s proprietary HyBeamTM and HyCrushTM automotive alloys at the Henderson recycling plant.  His extensive experience in automotive product development, combined with his deep knowledge of aluminum recycling production processes, position him well to oversee Hydro’s newest state-of-the-art facility and its production of Hydro CIRCAL® automotive alloys.

In addition to his in-depth production knowledge, Courtney brings with him a strong commitment to Hydro’s core values.  At the Henderson plant, Courtney also helped implement a number of employee welfare initiatives and led the production team through several years of injury-free production.  He also actively participated in Hydro’s community support activities, with a focus on educational opportunities for area youth.

Investing in next generation recycling technology and R&D to serve U.S. industries
The state-of-the-art recycling plant supplies car makers and other industries in the U.S. with recycled aluminum. The plant started production in 2023, has 70 employees and produces 120,000 metric tons of low-carbon aluminum extrusion ingot per year. Applications for the aluminum produced in Cassopolis includes critical automotive applications as well as other transportation uses, consumer and building system applications.

Last year, Hydro opened a best-in-class technology center in Cassopolis. The technology center and the recycling plant are connected by sharing the same administration building, fostering closer collaboration between operators, engineers, technical, and R&D personnel.
